Create a built in alert
Plus and Pro each include five price alerts. Free and Basic do not include them. Compare pricing, then sign in and open account alerts to create one. Each alert watches one metal: gold, silver or copper.
Choose one rule: a level cross above, below or in either direction; a percentage move over one hour or twenty four hours; or the daily close. Alerts check live prices. Each alert sends at most one level or percentage delivery per hour, or one daily close delivery per UTC day.
Schedule a check on Free or Basic
For Free and Basic, run the request below every fifteen minutes. It reads the gold price per troy ounce from /v1/spot/XAU-USD-SPOT. Choose your level in the same currency and unit. Keyless requests need no key or sign up, so this route can start without an account.
That schedule makes four requests an hour, ninety six a day and about two thousand nine hundred a month. It fits the keyless limits of ten requests a minute and a hundred an hour per IP, and the free key allowance of five thousand calls a month.
curl "https://api.goldprice.dev/v1/spot/XAU-USD-SPOT"Check the delivery and signature
A built in alert sends a signed POST request with a JSON body to your chosen URL. Use https on port 443 with a public host name. Private or local addresses are refused. The body includes event, alert_id, kind, symbol, direction, price and observed_at. Rule fields are level; percent, window and reference_price; or date and close.
The Webhook-Signature header is written t=<unix time>,v1=<HMAC SHA-256 of "<t>.<body>" with your signing secret>. Save the signing secret when creating the alert, because it is shown only once. Verify the signature against the received body and reject signatures older than five minutes.
Send a test delivery from the alerts page to check your receiving URL. goldprice.dev sends no email or SMS. The POST goes to a URL you control, such as a chat tool's incoming webhook or a small server.
Remember the state for scheduled checks
For a scheduled check, read is_stale and computed_at before comparing the price. Free prices are fifteen minutes late. Use the first valid reading to establish whether the price is above or below your level, then save that state.
Notify when a later valid reading crosses your level. For an upward crossing, the state changes from below to at or above it. Reverse the comparison for a downward crossing. Repeated readings on the same side should not send repeated alerts. Polling can miss a crossing that returns between checks.
Use a setup tutorial
The price alert tutorial shows a script that checks the quote, remembers the last state and posts to a chat service's incoming webhook. Follow it for a working route from a scheduled request to a notification.
For a setup without writing a script, follow the scheduled workflow tutorial or the workflow automation tutorial. Keep the same checks for freshness, matching units and saved state whichever route you use. The notification is sent through your chosen tool.
