FAQ
How is the live gold conversion calculated?
International spot price (USD per troy ounce) is divided by 31.1035 (grams per troy ounce) to get USD per gram, multiplied by your weight in grams, adjusted for karat purity (24K = 99.9%, 22K = 91.6%, 21K = 87.5%, 18K = 75%, 14K = 58.5%), then multiplied by the live USD→target FX rate. Result excludes retailer making charges, VAT/GST, and dealer margin.
How many grams are in an ounce of gold?
One troy ounce of gold is 31.1035 grams. Gold is priced per troy ounce, which is about 10% heavier than the common ounce of 28.3495 grams. To get the gold price per gram, divide the price per troy ounce by 31.1035.
What is 1 tola in grams?
1 tola = 11.6638 grams. The Indian retail standard, used by the Reserve Bank of India. The pre-decimalization tola was the British Indian standard of 180 grains.
What is 1 tael in grams?
1 tael (Hong Kong / Macao 司馬兩 standard) = 37.4290 grams. Mainland China retail uses grams; the tael persists in Hong Kong, Singapore, and among the Greater China diaspora.
What is 1 troy ounce in grams?
1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 grams. The international wholesale unit for gold, silver, and platinum. Distinct from the avoirdupois ounce (28.3495g) used for everything else. LBMA, COMEX, and London PM Fix all quote per troy ounce.
Why does 22K cost less than 24K per gram?
22K is 91.6% pure gold, the rest is alloy (usually copper or silver) for hardness. 24K is 99.9% pure. Per gram, 22K's metal value is approximately 91.6% of 24K's, because you're paying for 91.6% as much gold per unit weight.
Does the result include taxes and making charges?
No. The output is the metal value only, at the live spot rate. It excludes retailer making charges (typically 8-25% in India, 0-15% in UAE, varies elsewhere), VAT/GST (3% gold + 5% making in India; 5% on jewelry in UAE; 11% PPN in Indonesia), and dealer margin.
How are non-USD currency conversions calculated?
USD spot price × FX rate. INR, IDR, and CNY use live interbank rates from exchangerate.dev, refreshed roughly every 60 seconds, with the newest stored rate, up to 3 days old, as fallback. AED uses the UAE Central Bank's USD peg of 3.6725 (fixed since 1997), more accurate than any live FX feed because the peg literally is the rate.
