Get gold, silver and copper prices in Cursor through the goldprice.dev MCP server. Use a local connection with an API key or a remote connection without one. Paid plans return live prices; Free and keyless prices are delayed.
- Local setup needs Node.js and a goldprice.dev API key.
- Remote setup needs no Node.js or API key.
- Cursor shows each tool call, which you can approve.
Get a free API key for local setup
Sign up at goldprice.dev for a free API key without a credit card. Free includes 5,000 calls a month and a limit of 10 requests a minute.
Install Node.js so npx can run the local server. If you want to connect without installing Node.js or getting a key, use the remote setup below.
Add the local server to Cursor
Open .cursor/mcp.json at your repository root or ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Add the goldprice entry under mcpServers. It uses npx to run @nusantara-ventures/goldprice-mcp.
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key in the env block's GP_KEY value. After editing mcp.json, switch the server off and on under Customize (or restart Cursor).
{ "mcpServers": { "goldprice": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "@nusantara-ventures/goldprice-mcp" ], "env": { "GP_KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY" } } }}Or connect to the remote server
Add the remote goldprice entry under mcpServers in mcp.json. Use https://api.goldprice.dev/v1/mcp/ and keep the trailing slash. After editing mcp.json, restart Cursor or switch the server off and on under Customize.
No Node.js or key is needed. Without a key, get_spot_price, list_commodities, get_carat, search_docs, get_metadata and get_historical answer; get_physical_price and get_forward_view return plan_gated errors, and start_checkout returns api_key_required. Prices are delayed 15 minutes.
get_historical returns 30 days of daily history without a key; longer history needs a paid plan. get_metadata also works keyless. Local paid keys give live prices.
{ "mcpServers": { "goldprice": { "url": "https://api.goldprice.dev/v1/mcp/" } }}Ask Cursor for a price
Ask in Cursor's chat or agent panel. Cursor shows each tool call, which you can approve before using the result in your work.
"What is the 22K gold price per gram in INR?" uses get_carat. This works with the local server or the keyless remote connection.
"Get the daily closes for silver for the last month" uses get_historical. It works keyless for 30 days; longer history needs a paid plan.
What Cursor can read
The keyless remote connection supports get_spot_price, list_commodities, get_carat, search_docs, get_metadata and get_historical, including 30 days of daily history.
Intraday bars need Plus or Pro. Dealer prices through get_physical_price need Basic or above. get_forward_view is for legacy plans only.
These are reference prices, not trade offers. Buying a plan uses start_checkout and requires your confirmation.
If something goes wrong
If no tools appear, check mcp.json for invalid JSON, including trailing commas. After editing mcp.json, switch the server off and on under Customize (or restart Cursor).
An invalid_api_key error means the key is wrong or missing. Check that GP_KEY is in the local entry's env block and that YOUR_API_KEY has been replaced.
