Check custom MCP server access
Custom MCP servers work on ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu, on the web only. Business admins and owners can create them. Enterprise/Edu admins and members with role-based access control permission can create them.
Developer Mode is not needed. Mobile apps cannot use custom MCP servers. The remote goldprice.dev server needs no API key or Node.js.
Create the goldprice.dev plugin
In ChatGPT on the web, go to Plugins, select the plus button, then "Add custom MCP server". Enter a name, put https://api.goldprice.dev/v1/mcp/ under Connection, and keep the trailing slash.
Set authentication to none. Tick "I understand and want to continue", select "Create as a plugin", then review the listed tools. This server is keyless.

In a new chat, type @ and pick the plugin. Ask for the metal, currency, unit and karat you need.
"What is 22K gold per gram in Indian rupees?" uses get_carat.
"What is gold trading at in US dollars?" uses get_spot_price.
"How do I get a goldprice.dev API key?" uses search_docs. You can ask for setup help even though this plugin does not need a key.
What ChatGPT can read
Without a key, get_spot_price, list_commodities, get_carat, search_docs, get_metadata and get_historical answer; get_physical_price and get_forward_view return plan_gated errors, and start_checkout returns api_key_required. get_historical returns 30 days of daily history; longer history needs a paid plan.
Check the price time in each answer. Keyless prices are delayed 15 minutes, the same as Free.
Get live prices with a paid key
For live prices, use the REST API or the local MCP server with a paid goldprice.dev key in Claude or Cursor. See the Claude and Cursor setup pages for local connection instructions.
This ChatGPT plugin stays keyless. It cannot provide paid access to dealer prices or forward views.
If something goes wrong
Custom MCP servers require web access: Business admins or owners, or Enterprise/Edu admins or members with role-based access control permission. For connection errors, check the URL, trailing slash and authentication set to none.
Keyless calls have a limit of 100 requests an hour per IP. A plan_gated error means the requested tool is outside this connection's access; repeating the request does not unlock it.
